Poison Ivy Costumes
One would associate the name Poison Ivy to the plant itself or one of the sexist villains from Batman. For those who fancy an elaborate and feminine outfit with a touch of mysteriousness, this character would be the perfect choice. Poison Ivy costumes are mainly dominated by the combination of bright red-coloured hair, ivy vine details
and different shades of green throughout the costume.
There are toned down versions of the costume specifically designed for younger children which are more appropriate for their age whereas sexier versions are available only for adults. Making the costume yourself gives you more creative freedom. Check out any thrift shops or craft shops and you will be surprised at how many items that can be used and included in the creation of the perfect Poison Ivy costume. Any fabric with an eye-catching leaf print is a good place to start. This is also more in keeping with the leotard leaf detail from the Batman film. You can use a green shimmery cape to pair up with a cat suit or tight body suit for effect.
If you prefer something more feminine, replace the body suit with a short body-hugging dress. A corset will accentuate your waist. Some people would wear a green leotard. Go wild with the makeup, but don't forget to wear a cherry or blood red lipstick, after all Ivy is famous for her deadly weapon - her kiss. There are so many Poison Ivy costumes that you can purchase from specialist costume shops although a lot of them are quite expensive and may not be exactly what you were looking for. Do shop around as you can always mix and match the accessories. It's always the details that make all the difference in a costume. Check out any florist or craft shops for artificial leaves that look real. You can then cut them out into individual leaves to be stitched on to the bodice, dress, neckline and other areas such as the thigh and leg areas. You can even wear some on your head.
If you are wearing fishnet hose or leggings, make sure they are green in colour and stitch these leaves on too running the entire length of the panty-hose, although do avoid the ankles and knees as they may make it hard for you to walk in them comfortably. Finally, Poison Ivy in the comic book wears tomato-red heels whereas in the movie she wears a pair of green tall boots, so it's up to you whichever fits better. The finishing touch - a glittery eye mask to add the mysterious factor to the whole ensemble!
